Section: Learning Objectives
Each objective below describes a transfusion-service laboratory competency, investigating and interpreting adverse transfusion reactions, not delivering bedside treatment.
- Execute the immediate stop-notification and specimen/unit-retention sequence that begins every suspected transfusion reaction workup
- Perform the core investigation algorithm, clerical check, visual plasma inspection, DAT, and repeat ABO/Rh typing, and state what each step is designed to detect
- Identify the findings that trigger an extended workup (antibody identification, culture, TRALI/TACO-focused documentation review) and distinguish each triggered pathway from routine baseline testing
