Section: Learning Objectives
Each objective below describes a transfusion-service laboratory competency, investigating and interpreting adverse transfusion reactions, not delivering bedside treatment.
- Apply the shared core transfusion-reaction algorithm (clerical check, visual plasma inspection, DAT, repeat ABO/Rh) consistently across hemolytic, febrile, allergic/anaphylactic, TRALI/TACO, and septic case presentations
- Select the correct extended workup pathway and reporting classification for each case based on the pattern of core-workup and documentation findings, not on symptom appearance alone
- Distinguish, in every case, the laboratory's investigation and reporting role from the clinical team's diagnostic and treatment responsibilities
