Section: Learning Objectives
Each objective below describes a transfusion-service laboratory competency, investigating and interpreting adverse transfusion reactions, not delivering bedside treatment.
- Describe the laboratory's notification and unit-quarantine response when TRALI is suspected, and explain why the implicated unit and any co-components from the same donor require tracking
- Explain the donor-antibody mechanism proposed for TRALI and why it drives a donor follow-up/notification interface rather than a patient-specimen test
- Distinguish the laboratory's TRALI-support role (notification, quarantine, donor interface, documentation) from the clinical diagnosis of TRALI, which is made by the treating team using respiratory and imaging criteria
