Section: Learning Objectives
Each objective below describes a transfusion-service laboratory competency, investigating and interpreting adverse transfusion reactions, not delivering bedside treatment.
- Describe the timing pattern and clinical picture typically reported as TACO, and identify which parts of that picture the laboratory documents versus which parts the clinical team assesses
- Compare the laboratory-relevant documentation clues that help distinguish TACO from TRALI when a reaction report describes respiratory distress during or shortly after transfusion
- Apply the correct hemovigilance reporting classification for a suspected TACO episode and describe the laboratory's product-disposition and documentation responsibilities
